After watching the events in my previous entry and how shamelessly Bank of America acted I couldn't sit by and not do anything. He was my father so I took up his cause. I contacted 7 On Your Side, which claims to be a consumer rights advocate. The show is aired on a local news affiliate of ABC here in the bay area. After filling out the complaint form I received a call about a week later. The gentleman said he was from 7 On Your Side and he had read my complaint. He then went on to tell me that Channel 7 had reached an agreement with Bank of America not to investigate any complaints involving overdrafts or excessive fees. In exchange, he told me Bank of America had given them an 800 number that people who had complaints about overdrafts or excessive fees could call. He gave me the number and hung up. When I called it, it was the Bank of America online banking number that is better known as "customer support". The same number a customer calls to find out if a check has cleared their account.
So my question is how much "hush" money did it take from Bank of America to buy off the ABC affiliate channel 7?
Integrity is not a four letter word. Don't be ashamed to have some.
